The short version

Japan Reviewed sets no cookies of its own beyond the analytics ones described below, does not run ads, does not collect names or email addresses unless you send them to me, and does not sell anything about you to anyone.

Analytics

I use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see which pages are read. It is privacy-focused: it does not use cookies, does not fingerprint visitors, and does not track individuals across sites. What I see is aggregate page views, referrers and countries — never anything that identifies you.

I also use Google Analytics 4 to understand how articles are found and read — which pages, which search terms brought you, roughly where in the world you are. Unlike the measurement above, it sets cookies in your browser, and Google processes that data as a provider on my behalf.

It is set up with advertising features off: no data is used for ads, for remarketing or for building an advertising profile of you. If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, analytics cookies are switched off by default for you — your visit is counted, but without a cookie and without anything that could identify you across sessions. You can also opt out anywhere using Google’s browser add-on.

Affiliate links

Articles contain affiliate links to retailers, primarily Amazon. When you follow one of those links, the retailer may set its own cookies and collect data according to its own privacy policy, which I do not control. Amazon’s privacy notice applies once you reach Amazon.com. See the affiliate disclosure for how this works commercially.

Fonts

Web fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser makes a request to Google’s servers and Google receives your IP address as part of that request.

Liking an article

Each article has a like button. There is no account on this site, so pressing it sends nothing that identifies you: the server stores one number per article and no record of who pressed it — no name, no email address, no cookie, no IP address, no fingerprint.

Your browser remembers which articles you have liked, so the button can show its own state when you come back. That is stored in your browser’s local storage, not in a cookie, and it is never sent anywhere. Clearing your browser’s site data removes it, and the rest of the page works normally without it.

Hosting and logs

The site is hosted on Cloudflare. Cloudflare processes requests on my behalf and may retain standard server logs for security and abuse prevention.

If you get in touch

Messages sent to the contact account are kept only so they can be replied to. Nobody is added to a list and nothing is shared. Messages sent through a third-party platform are also subject to that platform’s own privacy policy, which I do not control.

Your choices

You can block third-party requests and cookies in your browser; the site is designed to work without them. Clearing your site data forgets which articles you liked. If you would like me to delete an email you sent, ask and I will.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it.
